Cookie Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
Overview
This Cookie Policy explains how Understand Sunnah uses cookies and similar technologies. We keep this simple: we do not use advertising cookies, we do not sell your data, and we do not use third-party tracking. The only cookies we use are strictly necessary for the site to function.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work and remember your preferences.
Cookies we use
user_session
EssentialKeeps you signed in to your account. Set when you log in and expires after 30 days. Without this cookie the site cannot remember who you are.
admin_session
EssentialAdmin session token. HttpOnly, DB-validated. Only set for admin users. Expires after 30 days or on sign-out.
Local storage (not cookies)
We also use your browser's local storage to save preferences on your device. Preference data (theme, reader settings, recent searches) stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. The session backup key is an exception — it stores a copy of your session token used by the Android app only, to restore your login if the OS suspends the app and clears the cookie store.
theme
Your light/dark mode preference.
reader-prefs
Font size and reading width settings in the Hadith reader.
us-recent-searches
Your last few search queries for quick access.
us_session_bk
Android app only. A copy of your session token used to restore your login if Android kills the app process. Not used in the browser.
What we do NOT use
- Advertising or marketing cookies
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, etc.)
- Social media tracking pixels
- Third-party tracking of any kind
How to control cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling the user_session cookie will sign you out and prevent access to bookmarks, notes, and reading history.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
